After years of experience, we have found that there are some questions that every bride has when they begin to look for a wedding cake. Listed below are some if the most popular ones that we get:
What do I need to bring for my consultation?
Please come prepared. Bring 2 or 3 design choices. You may choose from our Portfolio (cake name and number) or any magazine photos, images from websites or your own sketches. Bring your color swatches (i.e. ribbon or paint swatches) lace or wedding invitations. Anything you intend to incorporate into your cake we will need to see. If you choose to order with Sugar Fashion Cakes you will need to be prepared to remit a 30% retainer which reserves our services and is non-refundable. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Cash and Check.
The first consultation is free so the more we can accomplish the better. Additional consultations are billed at $25.00 for 30 minutes.
Can you copy a picture from a magazine or Pinterest?
We do it all the time!! Many people like our reproductions better than the original we are copying. We love to see new ideas.
How soon do I need to order my cake?
We usually book 2-3 months before your wedding. May, June, August, September and October fill quickly, so it's best to order as early as you can for these months. A 30% deposit will put you on our calendar. The balance is due 2 weeks before your wedding.
Do the prices include the fresh flowers?
No. You need to order your flowers through your florist. You get the best price that way, and you are sure the flowers will match. We will provide any handmade sugar paste flowers, sugared fruit, etc. that you may choose.
Do your cakes taste as good as they look?
You bet! We are well known for great taste. We always get thank you notes commenting on how delicious, moist & flavorful our cakes are. We love to give samples so you can see for yourself!
Which are your most popular flavors?
Lemon Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter, Italian Cream, Classic White with Buttercream. Our cakes are always made fresh with the very best ingredients. They are always moist and flavorful.
Can I choose more than one flavor?
Yes. With a 3 tier cake you may choose 2 flavors. With a 4 tier cake, choose 3 flavors.
Why is your fondant better?
It is soft and pliable when you cut it. There is never a bitter after-taste (as with other bakeries). We always ice the cake with buttercream before we cover it with a thin layer of fondant. That way you get the beauty of fondant, and the great taste of buttercream. We are happy to give you a sample.
What size cake will I need?
That depends on how you will be using it. Will it be on display for most of the evening and cut toward the end? Will some of your guest have come and gone before you cut the cake? Usually a 3 tier cake will be enough to serve those who are there toward the end of the evening.
Is the cake serving as dessert after a sit down dinner? In this instance you need to be sure you have a nice sized slice for each guest, which usually requires a larger cake. "Dessert slices" are larger than a "reception slice" shown on the price & servings chart.
Other points to consider: How big of an impact do you want your cake to make? How large is the area where it will be displayed? Is the cake high on your priority list? Is the cake a grand centerpiece?
